Nike new England kit St George Cross

Fans React to the Nike England Kit Flag Design

Nike and the FA hit the headlines recently after their controversial redesign of the St George’s Cross. The 2024 England kit features a purple, blue and red cross instead of the traditional red on white background. In response, Nike described the change as “a playful update to the cross of St George” but it’s safe to say that most of you are not too pleased with the design! Here’s a… Read Article →

Qualification is not REAL success for the Three Lions

So well done to England they have qualified for Euro 2020 – credit where credits due. It was the 7-0 thrashing of a, lets be honest, a not fit for purpose Montenegro team that was the key result, but you can only beat what is put in front of you and they duly did the requisite job and some. A routine 0-4 victory against Kosovo followed, which was a dead… Read Article →

Goleo world cup 2006

Fifa World Cup 2006 Remembered

The Germany 2006 tournament started off brilliantly, descended into boredom and then went out in a flourish, with the Italians as worthy victors. Cannavaro & Gattuso emerged as their players of the tournament, but the whole side did what most others couldn’t do – play as a team. The World Cup favourites Brazil under performed and went home early along with perennial under performers Spain, who looked good in the… Read Article →

SAME OLD – BUT A BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD

So as seems to always be the case England lost in a major tournament football semi-final (oh joy the 3rd / 4th place playoff here we come). It was a dramatic game in Lyon with goals, disallowed goals, VAR, a missed penalty and a sending off. To be fair to the Lionesses they gave it their all and left it on the pitch, but anyone watching the game, who isn’t… Read Article →

So we have an epic semi-final that will determine the first finalist at this years Women’s World Cup. The whole tournament has now decamped to the Stade de Lyon and what a setting it will be for a game we are all looking forward to. Click here for Netherlands v Sweden musings. THE ENGLISH VERSION PROGRESS TO THE FINAL 8

So it was the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon against just the ‘plain’ old Lionesses of England for a place in the last 8 at the World Cup, and it was the English version that prevailed in Valenciennes. In a match where the scoreline was a bit harsh on the African side, what it did tell was that Phil Neville’s team are very streetwise and dealt well with the physicality from… Read Article →

FIRST JOB DONE FOR THE LIONESSES – ROLL ON THE LAST 16

Minimum target achieved, guaranteed qualification to the knockout phase. As expected Argentina were a tough nut to crack, but eventually they found a way past the opposition goalkeeper, Vanina Correa, who was having a worldie, including a fantastic penalty save from Nikita Parris in the first half to keep it 0-0 at the break. England kept their discipline and were patient and eventually wore the Argentinian’s down and took advantage…

A GOOD START AND A LIMP ENDING

In the end they managed to get over the line and the Lionesses began their World Cup campaign with victory over the Auld Enemy. They just about deserved their win in Nice with 2 goals in the first half (one a harsh, in my opinion, penalty) but fair play to the Scots as they came back into the match by being the better side in the second period and deservedly… Read Article →

There is no such thing as a practise match

After the disappointment of our defeat to Holland on Thursday night in our semi-final match, meant we took on Switzerland in Guimaraes earlier this afternoon for the third-place playoff game. Before we go any further though, we must remember the sad news from Friday with the death of ex-Spurs player Justin Edinburgh aged just 49. Our thoughts go out to all his family, friends and all that knew him. England’s… Read Article →

A night of many mistakes

Thanks to a Harry Kane 85th minute winner against Croatia last November in a Nations League group game, England had the chance to win a trophy in Portugal this summer. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be as England were beaten in another semi-final last night. This time in Guimarares, Portugal by a Holland side that is much improved under Ronald Koeman. England do still get to play another game in Portugal… Read Article →
