Second Stage: Wow. Argentina blew Serbia and Montenegro away big style. A 6-0 mauling has installed Argentina as favourites for the title and no other team has yet shown anything like the same devastating ability. It will take a mighty performanc in the knockout stages to send the Argies home.
Holland looked very solid and will be more than happy to have qualified with a game to spare. The Oranje will be difficult to beat on their day, and not an easy opponent in the knockouts. Everyone is looking forward to their last Group C game with Argentina. It should be a real cracker.
The Ivory Coast have suffered the worst fate in the group of death. Two fine attacking performances were not enough to keep them in the tournament, and many people will be sad to see them going home early. They seem to be easily the best team eliminated so far. Still, we've got one more game to look forward to when they meet S&M for the wooden spoon.
S&M must be totally demoralised after the carnage inflicted by Argentina, and can salvage some pride by beating Ivory Coast in their last game. They will not want to suffer another beating, and although there is only pride to play for this last game should produce another good game.
First Impressions: A superb first game in this group stated Argentina's intentions clear. They want to win this World Cup. Ivory Coast played some cracking football too, and despite their defeat, they will still have a lot to say in the outcome of Group C.
Holland's edgy win over Serbia gives them a massive three points, but they come up against Ivory Coast next. Expect another real classic.
Serbia must now think they have a mountain to climb against Argentina. Stranger things have happened, but you fear for them. Both of these second Group C games promise real quality, and anything can still happen in this "group of death".
