Why oh why....?

Saw Peter Knowles play loads of times and do some unbelievable things with the ball, including the sitting on it incident described by others. The games against the top flight clubs seemed to fire him up. Wolves played good attacking football for several years and he was the key, crafty old Dougan feeding off him and giving opposition centre halves a nightmare with his "accidental" elbows! Knowles was all class but obviously had some temperament problems. He was the idol of the South Bank (hence the song) and everyone was shocked (and angry) when he gave up the game. There are millions of Jehovah's witnesses but only one Peter Knowles. Was he used by the church to get publicity? If so, they would have been better off encouraging him to play. Where is he now? Does he regret not fulfilling his sporting gifts? He could have saved his involvement in religion until later in life. What a waste of talent.
