West Ham United's achievements in the 2006/07 Season
15th in the Premier League
League Cup: 3rd Round; Chesterfield a. 1-2
FA Cup: 4th Round; Watford h. 0-1
UEFA Cup: 1st round; lost to Palermo on a 4-0 aggregate.

Highlight:
1-0 win at Manchester United, 13/5/07

Low Spot:
0-6 defeat at Reading, 1/1/07.

Good:
Carlos Tevez
He should have been the man who had the Hammers relegated but ended up the one saving their skins with a series of inspired performances which saw the club escape the drop by the skin of their teeth.
Despite the furore surrounding the details of his signing there could be no doubting his actual talent and he is sure to be a target for the big clubs.
Bobby Zamora
His goals came when they were desperately needed and were often as spectacular as they were vital. His contribution to West Ham’s survival should not be underestimated.

Bad:
Nigel Quashie
The man who specialises in taking teams down was well on his way to another scalp until injury struck him down and his teammates did the dirty on him and actually managed to stay up.
Quashie is surely the only player in history who has relegation bonuses written into his contract.
John Pantsil
West Ham needed a right back so they signed a couple and ended up having to sign a couple more before anyone came close to doing a reasonable job.
Pantsil gets our vote as the most disappointing of the lot.

In Brief:
There was genuine optimism at Upton Park at the beginning of the season but this quickly faded and the season turned into a nightmare before everyone woke up just in time to write a happy, if controversial, ending.
The first disaster to befall the Hammers was the injury to Dean Ashton, training with England, that ruled the dynamic centre forward out for the season.
Results were bad from the off. Having beaten Charlton on the opening day the next win did not arrive until the end of October and Alan Pardew was sacked during a run of defeats leading up to Christmas.
Alan Curbishley was brought in but after a winning start at home to Manchester United he looked completely at a loss as the club embarked on a dreadful run which included some fearful hidings.
Then the club was rocked by the news that their signing of the Argentinians Mascherano and Tevez had been flawed and it seemed inevitable that their relegation would be sealed by the docking of points.
The Premier League decided that a fine was sufficient punishment, probably thinking the club would go down anyway, and the Hammers set about winning 7 of their last 9 games to secure a remarkable escape.
