Isis Football
by: Ian Harkness

Hi Noel,
That was an interesting story! I was in the same class as you at the Isis (first and second year); then I left to go down south. The Isis School provided a 'man's introduction' to sports; on sports day we went out no matter what the weather; I can remember playing football on what was more like a wet soggy potatoe field. I can also remember you pipped me on the line in the school cross country race (I think I still have the year book). You also "pipped me on the line" regarding the "pupil chosen to read something or other on 'parent's day'". My brother supported Bolton, but I only saw them once, against West Brom (which was my team); I think Nat Lofthouse was playing (who was the "legend" at the time). I only got to see some other first division matches in Lancashire in the early 1960s on isolated occasions (Man U).
However, the sweet shop at the end of the road (from the school) used to sell football cards; which held some unexplainable fascination for me/us. I can still remember having cards of Bobby Robson and Don Revie.
Regards,
Ian Harkness
Nb. I also remember Susan Parker and "Pip" Disley (Twizzle).
