Watford Ladies FC 2008-09 Season
National Premier League: 7th
League Cup: 4th round; Doncaster Belles a. 0-3
FA Cup: 4th round; Bristol Academy h. 1-3
Highlight:
4-1 win at Blackburn Rovers, 21/12/08
Low Spot:
0-3 defeat at home to Liverpool, 15/3/09
Good:
Helen Lander
Was once again prolific for Watford and her goalscoring exploits led to a move to Arsenal where the goals immediately dried up. Watford were grateful for the points her goals brought before the move, however.
Lisa Burrows
A versatile, competitive sort who is effective at full back or in midfield and was a consistent performer throughout this campaign.
In Brief:
Watford can be more than satisfied to have consolidated their top flight status in a season which saw them lose the prolific Helen Lander to Arsenal and the creative Ashlee Hincks to Fulham. Not surprisingly goals became a problem after the departure of those two players and without additions the squad looks vulnerable ahead of next season. Young forwards such as Sarah Wiltshire and Katie Owen offer cause for optimism, however.
The club will feel that they missed an opportunity to make some headlines in the cups after losing out to Bristol Academy and Doncaster Belles.
