Sven Goran Eriksson - England Manager

We thought we'd better put a page up for good old Sven Goran Eriksson. We've certainly had quite a bit to say about him in the past, and we've certainly had plenty comment from our viewers as well. Keep it coming.

What's been said abut Sven so far...
Feb 6th: Norbert
We've received plenty of comments about Sven Goran Eriksson from our viewers, and we have to say that almost everyone that has contacted us wants him out. The mail below was sent by Derek Pearce, (He might be Stuart's dad - who knows?) But this does sum up what you are telling us.

Derek Pearce: Sven out now
Due to the fact that Eriksson is on his heels, after we win the world cup. Which should be a realistic dream, concidering the amount of talent youth and experience, added with some world class players, such as Beckham, Gerrard, Ferdinand, and Lampard, just to name a few. All thats missing is a strong, patriotic, leader/man manager, someone who can motivate the players, and get the best out of them. I feel very strongly that we should have an English manager, and that the FA. should appoint a sucessor to Eriksson NOW, so he can meet the squad, and start building them mentally for the biggest prize in the game. I also would like to see Stuart Pearce, who as an England player, was never found lacking of pride, patriotisum, or effort when ever he put on an England shirt, be asked to accompany the squad to the world cup, to work alongside the new manager, with an aim to bring the biggest trophy back to where it belongs. F#~! Eriksson off NOW !

Norbert
The point about Stuart Pearce seems fair enough, a motivator would not be a bad idea. I'm not sure the new chap has to be English though, I'd have Mourinho tomorrow.

We all know the team, we just need somebody on the line that can react to situations in the game, and change it if it's going wrong.

It has to be said that I too want Sven Goran Eriksson out as soon as possible - The FA have committed an almighty balls up of gargantuan proportions in allowing him to stay. And what a spineless cop out too.

The most recent activity being published in the media by the FA now shows them to be eagerly searching for the next England manager - they want to have that decided before the World Cup. They want to be sure that they've got the right man.

Excuse me Mr Barwick, but it seems that for the last 3 weeks when the shit was flying, you were telling us all that you already have the right man. Sven is the man to lead us to World Cup glory.

If he's the right man now, why then is he going immediately after the World Cup. You've got him on contract for another 2 years after that, so why not keep him?

The FA were also were also telling us that they wanted whole sorry mess cleared up quickly, so that they can all get on with the most important thing - World Cup preparations, without any distractions.

If that's so why not wait until after the cup? Seems to me that when they anounce the new guy, we will have the same media circus all over again. No distractions...

We have got a great chance of winning "it" this time, and I do not want to watch us go out with a whimper in the Quarter finals devoid of ideas.
Sven Out? - Fine by Me.

19th Jan Norbert's rant in Pub Talk. Read the whole thing Here.

I now hate the fact that Sven Goran Eriksson is England manager. I want him sacked and I want it now. Don't give me any of that "It'll ruin the preparations for the World Cup". That is nonsense. Slagging your players off to complete strangers is good preparation is it? Plotting your future career & business aspirations is a good way to keep your mind on the job in hand is it? Get the bastard out and do it now.

Prior to this event, following previous indiscretions, there have been rumblings and rumours coming out of the FA for ages that Sven was only keeping his job because of his watertight contract, and the fact it would cost the FA a fortune to remove him.

Nows your chance, you can sack him now, go on & do it.....

Jan 17th From Pub Talk.

Another recurring ugly side of football cropped up again at the weekend with the Sven Goran Eriksson incident.

The whole thing leaves a nasty taste. You do have to ask what papers are doing stirring up this kind of nonsense with the World Cup so close, but you have to despair at our gormless manager.

Sure, he can do what he likes to sort out his future, he's overstayed his welcome by now anyway, but what is he doing saying anything at all about his current players to complete frigging strangers?

And he says Wayne Rooney has been badly brought up. Where are the manners, the commonsense and the integrity in bad mouthing the people who you are relying on to build your own future and reputation.

It's hard to comment on this without lapsing into genuine pub talk mode. Sven Goran Eriksson, you are a dickhead.

Obviously we have to hope that this does not affect the morale or performance of the team, something which the Swedes' tactics will probably see to anyway....

Jan 3rd 2006 After the results of our England playing formation poll...

So no surprises then, 4-4-2 is the formation with the most votes. Just about half of you voted for 4-4-2, which obviously means half of you didn't.

Perhaps most noteworthy, (write this down Sven) is that half of us would like to see a more attacking line up, with 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 attracting 47.8% of the vote between them.

I think above all, this shows that when it comes down to the World Cup, we at least need a plan B for our England team. Recent events - Michael Owen being crocked shows how we need to be prepared.

Sat 10 Dec 2005From our England Editor...
....Surely not even Sven Goran Eriksson can lose any sleep about Trinidad and Tobago, although I might be doing him a disservice.

I shouldn't start already, but Eriksson really does worry me. He seemed to be shooting concerned looks around the hall as the balls were being opened, already seeing pitfalls, banana skins and his own demons at every turn.

Open your eyes, Sven, there aren't any. Would Brazil think twice about walking out of our group?

Perhaps he was just keeping tabs on Heidi Klum and making sure none of the boys at the front were getting too friendly with her.

He does strike me as a man who will start finding all our opponents that bit more difficult every time he thinks about them, and there's a lot of time left for pondering between now and June 10.

The team needs to be confident and positive come the summer and to be so they need a confident and positive manager.

This is important Sven.

We've gone out with a wimper under your leadership twice already, apparently content to have done alright.

We can't guarantee or even expect to win this competition but we are not likely to have too many better chances.

Let's get playing and really go for it this time.

Nov 13th 2005 From our Pub talk archive. After the 3-2 defeat of Argentina...
....This takes me back to the last 2 major tournaments England have been in - when on the point of winning the damn thing Sven decided to adopt a cautious approach against sides that were afraid of our attacking ability. Yes, that does mean Brazil.

One thing you have to learn from this Svennis is that fortune favours the brave, so attack, score goals, put the shits up em and just let Rooney have the ball.... Full story Here.
