Cyril Knowles son's death by: Derek Franklin (Cov fan)
It was Cyril's son that was tragically killed in a freakish motorway incident. If my memory serves me right a stone came through the windscreen of Cyril's car, went between the front seats and struck the three year old on the temple killing him instantly. He was sitting in the middle of the back seat. The stone was believed to have come from a building site lorry that included debris that was trapped between the rear double wheels and suddenly became loose then propelled by the centrifugal force through the car windscreen. Although it happened over thirty years ago I am fairly certain this is what was reported to have happened and that it was not a deliberate malicious act. The lorry concerned was never traced. This must have been a very traumatic event for Cyril and his family and like all of us who are loving parents would probably have never got over it. It is something that would be on your mind for the rest of life and would be a constant mental torment.
Peter Knowles was Cyrils younger brother who played for the Wolves. Although he was a very tallented footballer unlike Cyril he was very irrational and had a bit of a reputation. For instance he once admitted getting deliberately booked when playing against Man Utd to "take the limelight away from Georgie Best." He then decided that football was full of evil and sin. He then decided to join a religious cult that agreed with him and retired from the game. I think he was still only about 23 when he packed up and threw away a very promising career.

"I as a Tottenham fan naturally cared more about Cyril. However I do remember rumors that Peter would end up at Tottenham. Then that his son was killed in a car accident where a rock was thrown through the car window killing the child in the back seat".
It was Cyril Knowles' son who was killed, not Peter's.
