My favourite player

With Bobby Moore in the team as well it is perhaps surprising to many that I talk too when I say Budgie was my favourite player but although Mooro is a close second I suppose that it was because he was an attacking player he gets my vote. If only he had been fit we might have had four players in the 1966 team.

The puzzle is why we, West Ham, did not win anything else other than two cups as between 1964 and 1968 we had a very good team. Ron Greenwood may have have a very good coach but he could not have been a good manager.

Budgie had it all. He made and scored goals yet played with a sense of fun. I doubt he was ever booked. I know they were very different times. His part in a 7-1 demolition of Don Revie's Leeds in the League Cup will stay with me forever
