Mulhall A Touch of Class

by Keith Kemp
(Kinshasa, D.R. Congo)

George Mulhall was the scourge of all right backs that he came up against. Not only was he able to hug the touch line and cross the ball acurately to the waiting strikers, but he also had the ability to cut inside whenever the opportunity presented itself and let fly with devestating power at the opposing goal.
The team of Montgomery, Irwin (or Nelson), Ashurst, Anderson (later Harvey), Hurley (replacement Rooks), ,McNab, Hooper (later Davison or Usher), Herd, Clough (later Sharkey), crossan and Mulhall was probably the best, in not the most succcessful Sunderland team that I ever saw.
In fact George Mulhall brought a touch of class to the left side of this team, because Len Ashurst and Jimmy McNab were two of the hardest, most uncompromising defenders that I have ever seen.
