Football Fans remember Soccer Legend - Peter Kitchen

I can remember watching Kitch in my first seasons as a Donny Rovers fan and I thought he was amazing. Him and Brenden O'Callaghan had an attacking partnership Rovers have never had since (and probably never had before).
I can also remember my Dad moaning about the one's he missed! As I've learned since, you've got to get in the positions and create the chance to miss it. No idea why he didn't make it at a higher level but maybe this way is poetry. He is someone the smaller club's fans have who the big boys had never heard of!

PLAYED AGAINST PETE ALL TROUGH SCHOOL, FROM JUNIOR TO SENIOR, AND INTO YOUTH CLUB TEAMS. HE WAS HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE ANY PLAYER IN THAT LEVEL.
HE PLAYED FOR DON AND DEARNE. REMEMBER WHEN I WAS PLAYING FOR WATH YOUTH CLUB ON THE SCHOOL PITCH HE SCORED 9 GOALS IN THAT MATCH WHAT A HAMMERING HE GAVE US.
I PLAYED FOR WATH CENTRAL JUNIOR, WATH PARK ROAD, NOW ITS WATH COMP, AND WATH YOUTH CLUB. I HONESTLY CANT REMEMBER EVER WINNING AGAINST A TEAM HE PLAYED IN.
ALL TEAMS IN THAT ERA WERE GOOD TEAMS BUT WHAT A PLAYER HE WAS. TRUE PRO PLAYER.

Played with Peter at Doncaster Rovers during the 1972/73 season, we were great friends on and off the field, we even both lived in Mexbourgh.
Peter always gave 100% when playing and went on to have a great career like myself.

I played with Pete in Mexborough Youth Club team in our mid teens just before he signed for Donny.
Last time I saw him to speak with was on the bus from Mexborough to Doncaster where he was playing for the Rovers that afternoon. How times have changed!
And, incidentally, he was an awesome player and a real nice bloke.

i have many wonderful memories of peter, a truly great player, but most of all a wonderful person, nothing snobbish about him.
after a game he would come into the supporters club and mingle with the fans and many times we would end up with a carry out and back to someones place.
when orient sold him to fulham it made a immediate impact on the team, peter then went on to cardiff and when orient played cardiff he left complimentary tickets for his friends.
i was one of them, i invited him to my wedding but he was playing that day but he wrote to me and wished me luck. i still have that letter, i will treasure it for the rest of my life.
thank you peter for making this beautiful game BEAUTIFUL.

I am now in my sixties and have supported Doncaster Rovers for 57 seasons. I have never missed one season in that time and have travelled home and away throughout.
The name Peter Kitchen will always be a legend to Doncaster supporters and to me he was an unforgetable player. His quick turns and eye for goal were second to none.
How I wish we had a Peter Kitchen today. The book will be a must buy for me.

Geoff Murrell wrote:

Without him, Orient would have been hopelessly relegated in 78, with no cup run. He didn't need a partnership, but scored goals of his own making.
No player has ever made more difference to a team.

I think the stats on your Peter Kitchen page speak for themselves on just how he is still regarded by both Doncaster Rovers and Leyton Orient fans as one of their all-time legends.
I'm happy to report that Peter's official biography. The Goal Gourmet - The Peter Kitchen story was published at the end of August 2006.
The book is available through the clubs shops of both Doncaster Rovers FC and Leyton Orient FC and also on amazon.com at £11.95
