I remember Peter well; we were in the same form at secondary school for 5 years. I was the captain of the school football team and played centre half. We had quite a good team; it also included Dave Bennett, who later went on to play for City.
Peter was no academic, but nonetheless was in the top form - so was no idiot, but it was obvious where his interests lay; sport in general and football in particular.
He was one of those who could turn his hand to any sport - you know the type - he also played on the school basketball team for instance.
He had a natural gift of scoring goals - it was obviously instinctive... I saw it happen many times! I am still bemused why he didn't make it in the big time - maybe he could enlighten us? Good luck Pete.

I was at school at the same time as Peter Coyne at Burnage High in Manchester. He was already on the books at Old Trafford and we all had high hopes for him.
I joined the Army straight from school and was looking forward to seeing Peter in the United first team when I came home on leave. Unfortunately, it was not the case.
I believe he was a quality player and remember seeing him score a
hat trick in one of the first televised England Schoolboys games against West Germany. I think I am right in saying he was a last minute replacement for another player for the game.
He was a good lad and a fantastic player. I believe he broke the goal scoring record for Manchester Boys, taking the record from Neil Young, a lad who later played for Manchester City, scoring the winner in the 1969 FA Cup Final against Leicester. Peter was a much better player, with the greatest of respect to Mr Young.
As far as I am concerned, Docherty dropped a big one when he let Peter leave Old Trafford, and I cannot believe he was not snapped up by another top club!

I went to school, Burnage High, at the same time as Peter. I was not a mate of his, but he was looked on as a hero because of the fact he was on uniteds books.
He was a brilliant player and he was definitely good enough to
make it at united. I saw the game on telly when he scored the hat trick against Germany, and it appeared he would become a great in the game.
unfortunately this did not work out. I have no idea why, but I lean towards the opinion that the manager at the time, Docherty took a dislike to him for some unknown reason.
I believe Docherty let his feelings take priority over the clubs interests and so Peter went on a downward career path. I also
believe it was Uniteds loss that he was not kept on at Old Trafford, and what if is a phrase that springs to mind.
I have wanted to meet up with Peter for a long time to ask what happened, because I would like to know. I have no idea what he is doing now, but I wish him all the best.
He was living the dream in my opinion, I just wish he had played more for United than he did. All the best mate.
