Memories Of Francis Lee

Never seemed to be out of the headlines when I was a young aspiring footballer between 1968 and 1972 - he was a tour de force who constantly rattled other sides defences. A real character in the true sense of the word and brought much enjoyment to a lot of people as I recall.
One goal I recall when he played for Derby County in his later playing years was out of this world - he was midway between the half way line and the penalty box on the far outside left - he cut inside went past two defenders' lunges before unleashing an absolute screamer that flew from 30 yards straight into the top right hand corner. Pick that out!

How many players have beaten his strike rate at top level? Can't think of many? circa 1 every 2.1 games - fantastic for a winger/sometimes striker (ps I'm a liverpool supporter aged 55) - remember watching a very young Francis Lee score for Bolton at Anfield in the sixties. We were told that he would be signing for liverpool after the game - unfortunately it never happened

Back at Maine Road with Derby having fun and games with big Joe Corrigan.
Also a few years earlier striking the tea ladies geezer at the Platt Lane just "warming up" before kick off.

Franny was my favourite player when I was a teenager. He scored some good goals and had a terrific shot.
