1.Gordon Banks-not only did he produce that magnificent save but he commanded the penalty box well, the first goal he conceded in 66 was in the semi against Portugal and that was a penalty. the Brazil v England game shows more than one spectacular save, infact there are 3 others of note- proof too when he was ill for the quarters that we missed the imperial Stoke man.
2.Gary Neville-people probabaly dont like his demeanour but he was solid at right back and could put a cross in too.
3.Stuart Pearce-hard,gentle,solid,could score, burst up and down the left flank and never looked tired, also the fact he had the nerve to take a penalty 6 years later and managed to score- a real lion.
4.Bryan Robson- always injured? 90+caps and 24 goals and the quickest world cup goal ever-the original Keane/Vieira.
5.Tony Adams- I thought of Butcher but thought Adams for his playing too-the guy could score, command and got better with age
6.Steve Howey- no I am joking- it's Bobby Moore of course. Dealt with cancer 6 months before the world cup, took over from Billy Wright, overcame scandalous claims he was the Bogotan Bandit, that tackle in the Brazil game, set up 2 goals for Hurst in the final, wiped his hands before collecting the trophy from the Queen plus many more.
7.David Platt-put him above Becks for his goalscoring-very underrated in our 90s side and played right back in the German semi in 96- could cross too and conquered Italy.
8.Alan Ball- beat Gazza for goals, commitment, not falling apart and all round displys-in Mexico he did not stop running in 238degrees of heat.A real trooper and the original Davids.
9.Gary Lineker- goalscorer.
10.Alan Shearer- another underrated player- could cross, score and play and throw himself around.
11.Bobby Charlton-yeah, I might not have too much width but nor did the 66 lot. He can score, not bad in a tackle and ran for ages despite his appearance- when he was taken off against West Germany, Beckenbauer found the space he waited 4 and a half years for to spring in to action.
Subs- Shilton,Des Walker,NeilFranklin,Gazza,Becks,Finney and Keegan
Honourable mention-Terry Butcher,Haynes,Peters, Gerrard,Rooney,Matthews,,Scholes,and McFarland
Manager -Sir Bobby Robson
