Liverpool Ladies FC 2008-09 Season

National Premier League: 11th, relegated.
League Cup: 2nd round; Nottingham Forest a. 2-4
FA Cup: 4th round; Disqualified for playing an ineligible player against Nottingham Forest

Highlight:
3-0 win at Watford, 15/3/09

Low Spot:
2-2 draw at Fulham, 5/4/09

Good:
Cheryl Foster
For most of the season Foster was just about the only Liverpool player who could find the net and could lay a justifiable claim to most of the points her side won. Capable of creating chances as well but had little support for the most part.
Kelly Jones
Liverpool’s midfield is perhaps a little lightweight but does not lack effort, bottle or ability. Jones possesses all those attributes and is always trying to drive her team forward.

In Brief:
The season ended disastrously with relegation confirmed after a 2-2 draw at bottom club Fulham. That meant that the Reds had drawn both their games with Fulham and they could hardly complain about going down after taking only one point from their games against their other relegation rivals, Nottingham Forest. There was also the sorry statistic of no home wins at all in the league.
This meant that good wins at Birmingham, Blackburn and Doncaster, as well as several worthy draws, were rendered irrelevant in the final reckoning.
Getting kicked out of the FA Cup for fielding an ineligible player after actually beating Forest capped a miserable campaign.
