Liverpool Ladies FC 2007-08 Season
National Premier League: 10th
League Cup: Semi Finals; Arsenal a. 0-4
FA Cup: 5th round; Blackburn Rovers a. 1-4
Highlight:
3-2 win at Blackburn in the League Cup 3rd round.
Low Spot:
1-5 home defeat to Everton.
Good:
Gill Hart
Hart epitomised the way Liverpool played their football; neat, tidy, industrious and intelligent.
Mainly employed in midfield Hart was used further forward on occasions and showed up well with her slick footwork and inventive use of the ball.
Vicky Jones
Both Liverpool full backs looked to use the ball properly and were keen to push forward whenever possible. Jones was possibly slightly more consistent than her usual partner Natalie Holt.
Jones might be petite but she has a big heart and always wants to be involved in the action. Played an important part in ensuring that Liverpool looked to play good football at all times.
In Brief:
Liverpool might have been expected to struggle after winning promotion the previous season but excellent early victories over Birmingham and Bristol Academy ensured that there was little danger of relegation and allowed the club to follow their good footballing instincts throughout the campaign.
Liverpool obviously didn’t have the strongest side in the league but they certainly played some of the most pleasing football. Quick, short passing moves were the order of the day as they tried to keep the ball on the floor whenever possible.
Winning through to the League Cup semi finals was also a notable achievement and capped a highly satisfactory campaign. To continue moving forward the club does appear to need a little more height and strength in certain areas, however.
