Is Abramovich picking the team?
by Norbert
Many Chelsea fans have been voicing the opinion recently that Roman Abramovich is picking the team. The departure of Mourinho and the installation of Avram Grant as managher can only give that theory more credence.
The relationship between Jose and his boss had obviously got to the point of no return, and if you think rationally about it, there could only be one outcome. The main bone of contention for the fans must be the way in which the new guy was appointed.
Chelsea, being the club it is today, with all the wealth and profile that goes with it, should not be ushering in a new manager overnight without first going to the International market and scrutinising the best available talent.
If Peter Kenyon is to be believed, the whole incident occurred without much warning one day last week. An element of surprise was intimated by the board that Jose was going. All the more reason then to step back, take stock of the situation and search out the best possible replacement: Not quickly appoint some bloke we've never heard of, with a less than impressive track record.
Avram Grant may turn out to be the best thing since sliced bread. He may also turn out to be a massive puppet, dancing on Abramovich's purse strings.
