Lindsay Johnson

Everton Ladies squad no. 5
caps 33
goals 1

This is the first time Johnson will be going to a major tournament as a first choice centre half and England will need her to reproduce her outstanding club form if they are to go as far as they would like in the tournament.
Johnson has all the attributes required to be a huge success but this is the time she needs to really step up to international level.

Italy: 1-2

Johnner's must be gutted. Having been first choice in the build up Hope Powell preferred Faye White on her return from injury and the England captain did little wrong.

Russia: 3-2

4 out of 10

This was something of a nightmare for Johnson whose inability to deal with balls down the middle put England in regular danger.
Looks too similar to play with Faye White and will almost certainly be on the bench if Asante recovers from injury.
On the plus side her distribution out of defence was an improvement.

Sweden: 1-1

7 out of 10

Suffered one or two uncomfortable moments but this was a good display overall and she seemed to be growing in confidence and stature as the game progressed.
Took a bad knock, though, and is now another England injury worry.

Finland: 3-2

7 out of 10

Switched to right back and gave a solid display before being substituted during the second half. You can only assume Johnson was struggling with an injury and is probably one of England's several walking wounded.

Holland: 2-1

7 out of 10

Didn't have much to do but was safe and sound when Holland tried to counter attack. Had the pace to match the speedy Dutch attackers.

Germany: 2-6

The return from injury of Faye White meant Johnson returned to the bench. Her pace and power may have made a difference as England struggled to contain the Germany attack but it is not certain.
After playing such a large role in getting England to the final it seemed harsh that she was not sent on for even a taste of the action late on.
