Jill Scott

Everton Ladies squad no. 12
caps 24
goals 3

Has been a regular starter in the England midfield over the past couple of years but may find herself behind Katie Chapman going into the tournament. Will not let England down if called upon but is another player who needs to go beyond the functional if England are to emerge as genuine challengers.

Italy: 1-2

6 out of 10

Scott put in her usual shift and made a couple of telling contributions in defence but lacked real quality in her attacking play.
England need more craft from this position.

Russia: 3-2

Left out to accomodate the return of Kelly Smith and, barring injuries or suspensions, may only be a bit part player from now on.

Sweden: 1-1

Sat this one out as well.

Finland: 3-2

7 out of 10

Came on shortly before half time due to Faye White's injury and made a positive contribution in midfield. Won the free kick, out of nothing, from which England scored their second goal and helped out defensively with tackles and interceptions.
Wasted a couple of promising positions by choosing the wrong option but appears capable of strengthening the team if called upon.

Holland: 2-1

7 out of 10

Was brought on for extra time and certainly made her presence felt. Came close with one flying header, missed a sitter and then scored the winner with a downward header four minutes from the end.
I'd start her in the final.

Germany: 2-6

5 out of 10

Scott came in to bolster the midfield but struggled to make an impact as Germany tended to dominate the midfield areas. Worked as hard as ever but without the usual effect.
