Iceland almost qualified automatically for the finals but ended up edged out by France. They defeated the French in their first meeting and needed a point from their second game to top their group only to lose 2-1 and therefore take a place in the play offs.
They were then paired against the Republic of Ireland for a place in the finals and ended up going through on a 4-2 aggregate after winning the second leg at home 3-1.
The Icelanders boasted the qualifying tournaments’ leading scorer in Margret Vidarsdottir who ended the campaign with twelve goals to her name.

Football England Prediction

Iceland look to be in a group of death with Germany, Norway and France for company. They will probably have to win their opening game against the French if they are to progress and they are capable of springing a surprise. I expect them to be on the first plane home, however. Unless they skate back.
