Doncaster Rovers Belles LFC 2007-08 Season

National Premier League: 6th
League Cup: 2nd round; Watford a. 2-3
FA Cup: 5th round; Cardiff City a. 2-3 aet.

Highlight:
4-3 win at Chelsea.

Low Spot:
3-2 defeat at Cardiff in the FA Cup.

Good:
Carla Cantrell
Cantrell is obviously well regarded within the game having represented England at various age groups but this was the first season in which she really began to deliver the goods for The Belles. Hit a rich vein of form late on in the season when the goals started coming in quantity and quality.
There is still plenty of room for improvement but this was a highly satisfactory campaign for Cantrell.
Vicky Exley
Exley might have called it a day with England but she continued to show her value to The Belles with a series of influential displays in midfield. Always a likely scorer she drives her team on and remains an inspiration for her colleagues.

In Brief:
I had my fears for The Belles before the season started but they showed a definite improvement on last year and picked up wins consistently to stay well clear of any relegation worries. Several of their victories were excellent efforts (Birmingham, Bristol Academy, Blackburn and Chelsea) and the team looked far more of a threat as players such as Carla Cantrell, Liz Hansen and Emily Heckler demonstrated real improvement.
There were disappointing exits from both cup competitions, however, and this is a club that needs to continue improving if it is to stay away from possible danger.
