Exley only got on late but certainly made her mark. Forced a fine save out of the keeper with a downward header and then scored confidently from the penalty spot after being taken out herself.
Obviously enjoyed her taste of World Cup action.

Germany 0-0:

Jill Scott's performance confirms Exley as lowest in the pecking order for a place in the England midfield.

Japan 2-2

It's difficult to see how or why Exley will see any action in this World Cup.

Assessment:

Exley broke into the England squad in 1995, just after their other appearance in a World Cup finals, and has hung on in there long enough to go to one herself.

Hugely influential at club level with the Donny Belles she is unlikely to be anything more than a bit part player in these finals.

She might just pop up with a crucial free kick in the dying minutes of a game but would be a worry if required to take on a more serious role.
