Once again found Rachel Yankey preferred when Hope Powell was faced with a straight choice.

Smith got a decent run out as substitute for Alex Scott and started poorly wasting several good crossing opportunities.
Began to find her range after switching to her favoured left flank and put over some teasing crosses as well as showing the full back her heels on a couple of occasions.

Germany 0-0:

Still no action for the Leeds United winger.

Japan 2-2:

Rachel Yankey gave an insipid display but it is hard to see Smith improving on it and she is probably just out there for the ride.

Assessment:

Smith is tricky and impudent, crosses well and can find the net. She is unlikely to unduly worry the better sides in this competition, however.

Will probably feature regularly as a substitute and will hopefully rise to the occasion if she does.
