Lindsay Johnson
Lindsay Johnson - England Defender - World Cup 2007
squad no. 20
club: Everton
position: defender
age: 27
caps: 19
goals:
USA 0-3:
Not required again.
Argentina 6-1:
I think Johnson has seen her two minutes of action in this tournament.
Germany 0-0:
Did not feature and with Mary Phillip now shifted to right back to accomodate Anita Asante is unlikely to figure again.
Japan 2-2:
Came on for the last couple of minutes at right back in place of Alex Scott and helped dig her club colleague Rachel Brown out of a massive hole when the England keeper threw the ball straight to an attacker on the edge of the box.
Assessment:
The fact that Johnson wasn't originally selected for the squad and only made after the unfortunate Stephanie Houghton got injured suggests that she won't see much action in China.
The Everton stalwart shouldn't be underestimated, however.
She is a big, powerful, commanding centre half with decent pace and sound ability on the ball. If called upon she is unlikely to let anyone down.
For England, however, she has been used as a replacement right back as often as not and never given a run in the side in her preferred position. Pity she doesn't play for Arsenal really.
