Qualifying

The Germans were typically efficient in a qualifying group that also included Russia, Switzerland, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland, cruising through without dropping a point.
This will have surprised nobody and they are once again strogly fancied to do well in China. Although they have looked an ageing side on occasions recently this summers' Under 19 championship showed there is younger talent coming through and the squad for China looks to have a decent blend of the old and new.

Birgit Prinz is still leading name in German football and top scored in qualifying. The two time FIFA World Player Of The Year will be keen to show the younger pretenders that she is still a force to be reckoned with.

As always Germany, the holders, look a good bet to go far and will be extremely disappointed if they fail to reach the last four. At least.
