Qualifying

Australia made life more difficult for themselves by joining the Asian qualifying section but won through in a tournament they hosted.
The Matildas beat South Korea and drew with North Korea to set up a semi final with Japan which they won 2-0 to guarantee a place in China.
They then lost the final of the Asian section to China on penalties but the major part of the exercise had already been achieved.

Look Out For

The 23 year old attacker Caitlin Munoz could emerge as a world star and Big Bird defender Cheryl Ferguson always captures attention.

Prospects

In three previous appearances in the finals Australia have never got beyond the group stage but they have a realistic chance of doing so this time.
I would not expect them to go any further if they did, however.
It also looks as though the Matildas are keeping their kits on this time as well.
