Chelsea Ladies FC 2007-08 Season

National Premier League: 5th
League Cup: 3rd round; Arsenal a. 1-3
FA Cup: 5th round; Lost 7-6 on penalties to Leeds United

Highlight:
1-0 win at Leeds United.

Low Spot:
3-4 defeat at home to Doncaster Rovers Belles.

Good:
Ellen White
This young forward combines tremendous strength with real ability and is going to be a top star in the very near future. Like her team she was not wholly consistent but continued to improve in general.
White looks ready to make a big impact very soon and start pressing for a place in the full England squad having already starred at various age groups.
Lizzie Edwards
Danielle Buet featured more regularly in the starting line up and forced her way onto the fringes of the England squad but Edwards looked every bit as good a prospect in the games I saw.
An instinctively creative player Edwards also shows good tactical awareness and works hard for the team.
One to watch.

In Brief:
Having brought in a trio of England internationals in the summer (Siobhan Chamberlain, Casey Stoney & Eni Aluko) this turned out to be a frustrating, disappointing season. The big names did not produce their best consistently which was clearly reflected in the teams’ results and performances.
Three wins out of the last four games lifted the club into 5th place in the league and hinted at better for next season but big improvements will be expected from almost everyone involved with the club.
The potential to achieve this is definitely there with several very talented youngsters (Buet, Edwards, White, Susi, Perry etc) coming through to back up the experienced spine.
