Aaron Lennon
Aaron Lennon - Midfielder - England World Cup Squad
squad no. 19
club: Tottenham Hotspur
position: Right Winger
age: 19
caps: 1
goals:
Aaron Lennon made a big impact in the "B" game against Belarus but he might be in for a rude awakening if he expects to do much in Germany.
Takes over the place occupied by Kieron Dyer in the past and we can't remember him getting much of a look in.
Has pace and can go past players so should be worth a gamble if things are going badly. This competition might have come too soon, however.
Football England Verdict
Rating: 7.00
Lennon did well and impressed everybody. Obviously that meant he was restricted to a couple of substitute appearances.
He brought energy and adventure to the team, two things that the manager seemed desperate to banish.
Young, flying wingers often dazzle briefly then disappear. Hopefully Lennon is here for the long haul.
Portugal 0-0.
Football England rating: 7
Came on for Beckham early in the second half and looked like inspiring England to victory until Rooney's sending off.
Made one great chance for Rooney/J.Cole and remained a threat with his pacy dribbling.
Ecuador 1-0.
Only got on the pitch for a few minutes but created a good impression. Kept Ecuador on the back foot with his speedy dribbling and did not surrender possession once.
Has impressed on his limited opportunities.
Sweden 2-2.
Nowhere to be seen after his good performance against T&T.
Trinidad 2-0.
Football England rating 7.
Happy times for Aaron. Got off the bench and made a real impact and his chances of featuring later on have obviously increased. We should remember that it was only Trinidad and it did help having Beckham behind him at right back. Not many wingers get service like that.
Paraguay 1-0.
Nowhere to be seen. Made the mistake of giving a good performance a few weeks ago and has barely been seen since. Has to hope he gets on against T&T or he might stay a spectator throughout.
