In Brief:
The club made a good start, taking 12 points from the first 6 games and also enjoyed a superb 4-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup. There was no hint of the turmoil to come.
Things quickly went completely pear shaped with 6 defeats in the next 7 games. Then there were no wins in 12 games from Boxing Day onwards which left the club mired in a relegation dogfight.
Five wins in eleven games kept the club in with a shout but they needed a draw from their final game at home to Boston to survive. Things looked bleak as they trailed at half time but three second half goals gave the club victory and survival.
Too many players were used during the season and a more controlled effort is required next time around to avoid a repeat of this seasons' tribulations.
Formed in 1872 by members of the Wrexham Cricket Club, Wrexham Football Club is the oldest in Wales.
In 1876 the club became founder members of the Cambrian Football Association, which would become the Football Association of Wales.
Wrexham became founder members of Division Three North in 1921 and had only two promotions from Division Four (1962 and 70) to show for their efforts in the Football League before enjoying a remarkable season in 1977-78.
Building on the good work of John Neal, who had left for Middlesborough, the new payer manager Arfon Griffiths led the team to the Division Three championship as well as the quarter finals of both the League and FA Cups.
Wrexham knocked first division Bristol City out of both cup competitions and also put Newcastle United out of the FA Cup.
Amazingly, Wrexham had to play at St James Park twice in that seasons' competition.
28,425 people saw them draw 2-2 with Newcastle in the fourth round and 42,157 turned out to see them defeat Blyth Spartans 2-1 in a fifth round replay.
During this incredible season only three teams managed to win at the Racecourse Ground.
The defeats to Liverpool, 1-3 in the League Cup, and Arsenal, 2-3 in the FA Cup, were probably not too difficult for the supporters to live with.
The single home league defeat, 1-2 to bitter rivals Chester City, was probably harder to swallow.
The team that year included Dai Davies and Eddie Niedzwiecki vying for the goalkeepers jersey, Gareth Davis and John Roberts at centre half, Les Cartwright, Mickey Thomas and Bobby Shinton in midfield and Dixie McNeil up front.
Wrexham stayed in Division Two for four seasons but since relegation in 1882 have spent their time alternating between the bottom two divisions, latterly in a desperate fight for financial survival.
This plight was highlighted last season when the club suffered relegation to Football League Division Two after being deducted ten points for falling into administration.
This disappointment was somewhat offset by the clubs' triumph in the LDV Trophy and the goalscoring exploits of Juan Ugarte.
Wrexham beat Southend United 2-0 after extra time to claim the LDV Trophy with Ugarte scoring the first goal.
This was nothing.
The Spaniard, snatched from Dorchester Town though previously with Real Sociedad, scored 23 goals in 39 games.
Ugarte scored five in one match, four in another and two hat-tricks along the way. Of his 23 goals only two came at the Racecourse Ground. The fans who didn't travel must have thought he was rubbish.
Due to their consistent success in the Welsh Cup, Wrexham have appeared in a record 44 finals, they have enjoyed several European Cup Winners Cup campaigns down the years, often performing with distinction.
In their first campaign in 1972-73, Wrexham knocked out Grasshoppers Zurich before losing out on away goals to Hajduk Split.
In 1975-76 they made it to the quarter finals before losing to the eventual winners, Anderlecht, on a 1-2 aggregate.
Then in 1984-85 Wrexham knocked FC Porto out of the competition on away goals after a thrilling 3-4 defeat in Portugal before losing to Roma.
Again in 1986-87 it was only away goals which saw them eliminated by Real Zaragoza.
