Milton Keynes Dons Football Club

Milton Keynes Dons Football Club at Football England

2006-07 Season

4th in League Two; lost in the play off semi finals to Shrewsbury Town
League Cup: 3rd round; Tottenham Hotspur h. 0-5
FA Cup: 2nd round; Blackpool h. 0-2
JP Trophy: 2nd round; Brighton & Hove Albion a. 1-4

Highlight:
3-1 win at Grimsby Town, 4/11/06

Low Spot:
5-0 defeat at Rochdale, 27/1/07

Good:
Izale McLeod
24 goals confirmed McLeod's reputation as the hottest shot at this level and speculation about his future remained a consistent factor of the season.
Paying big money for him would still seem to be a bit of a gamble, however.
Jon-Paul McGovern
Brought a bit of flair to a generally predictable attacking approach with his creative displays on the right wing.

In Brief:
Football England's least favourite team made an excellent start to the season before suffering a poor October. Six straight wins in December put them in an excellent position but there would be only two wins in January and February which meant that, despite finishing strongly, they had to be satisfied with a play off place.
Losing narrowly to Shrewsbury Town in their two legged semi final was a huge disappointment but perhaps reflected their somewhat one dimensional approach under Martin Allen.
With Allen now departed for pastures new and replaced by Paul Ince the club may well adopt a more cultured approach next season which might serve them better in their promotion ambitions.
With solid crowds and a new stadium to play in the club looks certain to attain upward mobility sooner rather than later.
